The Work Of An Architect
Being an architect takes a lot of dedication and talent. At least a bachelor’s degree is required and then testing must be done in order to receive official certification. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but those who are in the field often refer to it as a calling rather than just a profession. People who enter this field usually love to work with numbers, don’t mind spending time alone and are obsessed with details. It is the architects who plan, design and oversee the construction of new buildings. The demand for architects will always be present because there will always be a need for people who know how to design new buildings.
Those who practice architecture spend a great deal of time preparing design services for others. The architect will spend hours figuring out measurements and the best design for a particular edifice. Since they are working for someone else, they will go back and forth with the client until everyone is satisfied. Once they have the client’s approval, they must then have the approval of the city or state in order to begin the actual building process.
The architect knows that many changes will be made in his drawings before the final draft is done. This is when it’s important that an architect is dedicated to his job because it may take much improvising to please everyone. Every architect should work with ergonomic office furniture in order to remain in good physical condition while working. Typically, a drafting table can be adjusted, but having an ergonomic drafting chair will make it even easier for the architect to get comfortable and be able to work longer.
Architects are generally paid through a portion of the entire construction project cost. Obviously, the more experience and better reputation that an architect has, the more money he can charge for his services. Architects are often hired through a bidding process where they are selected based upon offering the lowest or most comparable bid. An architect’s reputation will continue to increase as he gains experience and that will enable him to be more selective about the jobs he chooses to take.
Being an architect is not for the fainthearted. Those who love math, solitude and details are more likely to enjoy the field. Also, if you are considering being an architect, get into a top-notch college so you can get the best education and have a greater chance of making a good name for yourself. While you know that you will have to work hard, it will be worth it to finally graduate and then explore the many opportunities that await you.
